Who would have guessed that three out of the four women on ‘The View’ episode Tuesday, July 29 would be proud gun owners? Maybe you too own a firearm, or maybe you don’t, but this entire hubbub on the hot topic of gun ownership has us curious. For all the gun owners out there, what made you decide to invest in a firearm for your home? And for all the non-gun owners, what situation could you possibly imagine, that would force you to consider bringing a gun into your home? For each of the gun owning View ladies it became clear in the moment of threatening danger to themselves and their children that it was time to invest in a gun.
Jenny McCarthy, Sherri Shepherd, and Juliet Huddy all spoke from experience of being in defenseless situations at home by themselves or with their children, when the unthinkable intruder alert happened. The frightening moment of being completely defenseless is what flipped the switch for these ladies on the issue of gun ownership.
It’s because of her children that McCarthy owns a gun. She said, “I’ve been in circumstances like Sherri where, you know people tried to break in and I’m with my son going, I wish I had something to protect myself with.”
Protecting one’s family can be a huge motivator for gun ownership, but it can also be the key reason for not owning a gun as well. The View’s fourth panelist, Lara Spencer, does not own a gun, and her children are also the reason why. She said, “I have two kids. I would never want a gun in the house.”
So which fear is more powerful? An intruder? Or a potentially fatal accident, if the gun were to fall into the wrong hands? They are both scary thoughts, and we don’t want to minimize either one.
